Our story

Jan. 2018 - Sept. 2019
The vision of a Wallonia at the cutting edge of technology
After more than a year of research and the onboarding of partners from both the academic and business sectors, Block0 applies to the Walloon region for funding a project for decentralized logistic traceability. Unfortunately, in mid-2019, the project is rejected at the final validation stage, as the evaluation committee considers that blockchain is not (yet) a serious technology.

Sept. 2019 - March 2020
Europe to the rescue
Block0 joins the European Blockchers program, which is promoting research and innovation in decentralized technologies and is part of the European vision of blockchain as the technology of the future. We present a very simplified version of our traceability project and a first prototype using IoT to trace chocolate travelling by boat to the US. We win the first prize in front of much bigger companies from all over Europe.
-
March 2020 - June 2021
Expansion of our activities and renewed support from Europe
The COVID pandemic doesn't stop us. We deliver several projects to our clients, including a prototype for the traceability of mangoes from Africa to France and a business-oriented platform for decentralized identity. We also receive new European funding for our research, through the BlockIS program.

March 2021
Wallonia, here we go again!
Together with local partners, we create and launch WalChain, a Walloon business network focused on the blockchain sector. The network quickly grows to over thirty members, including the public investment fund WING and the regional digital cluster Digital Wallonia. As a true breeding ground for new ideas, WalChain is a driver for innovation.

July 2021 - End 2022
A new product in development, nourished by experience
Based on previous projects and numerous studies analyzing consumer behavior, we envision a decentralized system able to meet the new needs of consumers for transparency and product information. We launch a research program on this topic and receive guidance as well as a first funding from the European program TruBlo. We are targeting a market launch in late 2022 or early 2023.

October 2021
Key partnerships
We officially become the first Belgian baker for the Tezos blockchain. We also deploy our second node for the Alastria network, and at the same time, we confirm our commitment to WalChain by launching its first Testnet, entirely developed by us, and based on Parity Substrate (the same technology that supports PolkaDot).
