Mango Blockchain

A traceability sharing solution for the mango supply chain.

Block0 developed the Mango Blockchain solution in collaboration with the COLEACP (Liaison Committee Europe-Africa-Caribbean-Pacific) and the SIIM (Omer-Decugis & Cie Group’s international import company).

From the farmer in Africa to the Rungis market (France), the stakeholders in the mango supply chain send traceability data to a decentralized and secure network (blockchain). The system detects if one of them tries to cheat (by deleting data, modifying data, avoiding transmission). By scanning a QR code on a mango, anyone can freely access the shared traceability data and verify its integrity.

Eternitrace

Solution for monitoring transport conditions, using IoT and a private blockchain (chocolate supply chain).

We carried out this project as part of the European Blockchers programme. We won the first prize.

The use case relates to the transport of chocolate from Belgium to the US. We use IoT sensors attached to the goods to send data at regular intervals to a decentralized system (powered by a blockchain).

We focus on data collection, processing, storage on-chain and off-chain. Exceeding temperature and humidity thresholds, as well as violent shocks, are detected. We can also detect faulty sensors, compare data from several sensors, etc.

By using a decentralized system, we can ensure that data has not been manipulated after it has been received. In addition, the thresholds agreed between the players, as well as other specific rules, are laid down in a smart contract, thus avoiding any disputes. The triggering of alerts when thresholds are exceeded is also initiated by the smart contract and not by an off-chain system. The main goal of this project is to generate a high level of trust between actors with potentially conflicting interests (sender, receiver, insurer, carrier, etc.).

CMR Tracker

A blockchain-driven system for monitoring the carriage of goods by road, with a particular focus on time verification.

In Europe, the CMR is a mandatory document for the transportation of goods by road. At the time we developed this project, only a minority of States allowed purely electronic CMR, so it was not possible to completely replace the written document. Rather than digitize all of its fields, we focused on the issues related to recording the places and times at which goods change hands, as well as the proof of signature of the document.

Thanks to a handshake system provided by a mobile application, geolocation and time stamping of key steps are recorded in a smart contract using transactions that are co-signed by the involved parties. Parties can also notarize the CMR once they hand-sign the paper document by photographing it (the hash of the photo is included in the transaction and the photo is stored on a decentralized network).

This allowed our client to prevent any disputes related to arrival times at the warehouse, as well as loading and unloading times.

CMR Ledger

Decentralized ledger simplifying the control of transport documents for the benefit of both carriers and controlling authorities.

In Europe, the CMR is a mandatory document for the transportation of goods by road. In its electronic version, it must be stored reliably so that it can be presented in case of an inspection. Currently, each transport software has its own specifications for storing, sharing and displaying CMRs. Faced with such diversity, the authorities do not have easy access to the data, so they consult the CMRs on the drivers' mobile devices and eventually ask for a printout. The carriers therefore bear all the responsibility in case of failure.

Our project aims to improve system interoperability and data access by creating a decentralized network to receive data from all software. Then, through a mandate mechanism, entirely managed by smart contracts, the information (whose access is authorized by the transport companies) can be consulted by the controllers on their own device. The carriers no longer bear the technical responsibility and the controllers have a simplified and standardized job.

The system has been designed broadly enough to allow integration of other types of documents, as well as the production of documents to other parties than controlling authorities (insurance companies, banks, other carriers, etc.). If you are specifically interested in the decentralized application allowing you to mandate an agent to present documents to third parties, we can adapt the system to other use cases.

ShoppEx

Based on a decentralized network, ShoppEx is dedicated to modern consumers, concerned about ecology, sustainability and ethics of retailers. This project is part of our in-house research on supply chain transparency, dedicated to the end consumer.

Today's consumers want to know more about the products they buy, beyond their price, composition, or intrinsic quality. Many recent studies point in the same direction: consumers are now interested in the origin of the product, its sustainability, its carbon footprint, the ethics of the manufacturer, the wage conditions of the workers, animal welfare, etc.

Our project aims to restore trust between retailers/brands and their consumers through two core features: events sharing and community channels.

Events sharing allows actors along the supply chain to share data extracted from its traceability system (EPCIS event) or any other relevant information for the consumer (comments, explanations, photos, carbon emission records, etc.).

Community channels allow the consumers to join a discussion group dedicated to a product. All actors who have previously issued events about this product are part of the channel. Since consumers have access to the events and to the actors who issued them, they can give feedback and ask questions directly to those who can best answer them. A proximity can also be created with the people on the ground like the farmers or the craftsmen at the other end of the world.

DigitalWallonia4Trust Testnet

Block0 is proud to have contributed to the development and implementation of the testnet for the DigitalWallonia4Trust project. As part of this initiative, our team played a key role in establishing the blockchain nodes using Hyperledger Besu, ensuring a robust and secure foundation for the network.

Supply Chain: We developed a decentralized system to enhance product traceability from origin to delivery. This included implementing Hyperledger Besu nodes, creating smart contracts to manage product data, and building REST APIs for seamless interaction with the blockchain.

Notarization: Our team delivered solutions for securely storing and verifying documents on the blockchain. By designing smart contracts and APIs, we enabled tamper-proof records and efficient access to metadata and document histories.

ESG Reporting: Addressing corporate sustainability needs, we created blockchain-based tools for submitting, verifying, and securely storing ESG data. These tools ensure compliance with transparency standards and regulatory requirements.

Digital Product Passport (DPP): We developed a scalable product tracking system using blockchain and NFT technologies. This demonstrator showcases the lifecycle of products, such as electric vehicle batteries, from creation to recycling, aligning with the European Commission's Circular Economy Action Plan.

In addition to the technical implementation, Block0 authored the technical FAQs for the exploratory phase, ensuring clarity and accessibility for all stakeholders. Our work in Phase 1 has laid a strong foundation for future developments, and we eagerly anticipate contributing to Phase 2
